Pascal's universe
of measureless voided space
once held me terrorised
Now at the end of the XX century
I see at last
that Copernicus and Galileo
needlessly risked their lives
I wish to sleep peacefully
on this small planet
round which the sun
revolves

Burning morning heat as we depart
in an ancient motor-boat
from the San Zaccaria jetty near San Marco
towards the Lido. Slowly
