Shadows in Llanbadarn Gillian Clarke
All shadows on the wall are blue.
Ladder-shadow. The rope askew
on the tenth rung. The Manx kitten
leaping the gap to the orchard wall.
Yours, searching the February soil
for points of green. Papery brown
flowers of dead hydrangeas stir.
