End Game

Do you believe the story of the airline pilot
who got lost in the fog
(his first date in two years)
on the streets of England
and fell into real water and drowned?

Did you believe the story of the little girl
who got lost in the streets of London
stopped a notoriously greedy and stingy
taxidriver to drive her home
got the ride and made a penny?

Do you believe the story of the millionaire
who knocked on your door
and asked you to pick out of a list
the true story of loss
where there was none?

That small mice underfoot
tell these stories only
