Views from the Road

Anna Adams

Cornfields lie toasting, poppies wave
  red handkerchiefs, our speed
  tosses the roadside weeds;
the hedgerow holds its flagdays, we might give
spare minutes that could change these paper favours
  to live, seedbearing roses, but the road -
                                        the road will not release us.

Leaves dance on light, place flat green feet
