The Solan

Goose
or gannet, ‘whose
      smell is so powerful that he is’
      under no circumstances
           ‘cooked within doors’, is the largest

sea-
bird of any
      to be found in the North Atlantic
      combing the oceanic
           distance in search of sustenance

or
perched by the score
      on perilous ledges high above
      the waves as they surge and shove
           at the foundations of the land.
