To Those on the Promontory

                The sky is arriving:
                                blood in the egg:
                snow on the ghost train roof.

Do you know what I like about this town?
        Fat Tuesday.
Even when the fair is closed
and these days the fair is usually closed
        it's Fat Tuesday.
Yes that's what I like about this town.

And this morning the sea paved
lilac. After the harrowing night.
                Not an inch of swell
                not a fleck
but the cuttle ashore already in stooks,
                cuttle for sale
                cuttle cuttle
