Three Poems
The Blue Argentine Dollar1
The Blue Argentine dollar depends on the sense
of security of its citizens.
It rises and rises like sky blue and white Argentine flags
that are raised and lowered in the beginning
and end of every school day
at elementary and high schools.
I cannot hide from evil.
I keep on saying to the man I love
who I think understands me
do not tell me how the Blue Argentine dollar is rising
from 548 to 569 to 585 to 599 to 665 to 720 to 1000
Argentine pesos to one American dollar.
A poem can appear,
can arise like flags izados in a ceremony by its young
like the Blue Argentine dollar rising out of fear.
A poem can rise out of anywhere
