THE FOUNTAIN OF CYANE

Her father's brother rapes her!
                                In the bright
Ovidian colours all is for delight,
The inadmissible minglings are recounted
With such finesse: the beery ram that mounted
His niece and, hissing "Belt up", had her, is
Hell's grizzly monarch gaunt in tapestries;
The thrashing pallid skivvy under him
A vegetation myth; the stinking slum
Is Enna's field where Phoebus ne'er invades
The tufted fences, nor offends the shades;
And her guffawing Ma assumes the land,
Coarsely divine, cacophonous, gin in hand
Sky-blue, dark-blue, sea-green, cerulean dyes
Dye into fables what we'd hoped were lies
