Sweetness and Light

'Too much is wrong', Roy Fuller said. It is.
But a contrary spirit, maybe an Irishness
While nodding agreement remembers the opposite
Though ill today, some pain, the work not good
And a gauleiter wind outside, a bullying brute
Bashing the last of autumn's colours flat
He marvelled at, from sickbed, yesterday
And heard two birds. And thought he understood.
