Martial

HIS NAMESAKE'S VILLA

The modest poles of J. Martial,
Than Gardens of the West more blest,
Line Janiculum's lengthy beam.

Remote heights command the foothills,
And the top, rolling & smooth lies
Open to serener heavens. . . .
Mist covering the curved valleys,
It shines in radiance alone, while
Delicate roofs of the tall house
Soar, tapering, to th' unveiled stars.

From here the Seven Peerless Hills,
Here all of Rome herself- appraise,
The Tusculan, th' Alban Hills,
Cooling Parks fringing the City,
Old Fidena, little Rubra,
