of this, see, she returns on tentative bloody feet

into the light offer of hope shed by the sun
a protective skein or do I mean skin which warms to its touch
even as I speak of you thinking of Jean
with a glass of wine & a loaf of bread as
a cloud passes over & our smiles fade for a moment
then return as after lunch we talk things over
with no idle word
