Letter to the Editor

Peter McCarey writes: Given the range of Sergey Zavyalov’s poetry it is worth noting that at least one book of his is available in English: Advent, Leningrad, 1941 (Molecular Press, Geneva, 2017), in a Russian and English parallel text approved by the poet. In spite of the subject matter, its tone is far from the austerity of the classical fragments translated by J. Kates for PN. Its distinctive narrative form prompted Robert Crawford’s Curriculum Violette; it was set to music in a massive oratorio by Sergei Akhunov. There is more on the poet’s Wiki page, and more that awaits a talented translator.
