Four Poems

These are the middle years,
The years of aggrandisement, when
The big philosophical question
Seems not to need any answer.
This is what it's about,
Youth's gaucheries survived,
The missus and he in accord,
The new Jag in the garage,
The odd bit on the side.
Now life justifies itself,
The strong grip on the racquet,
A firm hand on the gears,
Confidence worn like a suit,
The memorable week-end
With that real wild Danish piece.
The kids making eager choices
Are nearly enough to provide
