Here was a distant and remote youth
-I saw them on waking under the old apple-tree -
And a girl smudged by time but not remote,
Withdrawn that is from him but not from me:

Wind perhaps but not much against her dress,
Enough to show the outline of a girl.
I see them both against the blackened earth
- Burnt heather, it would be, from the smell.
