at the station of Montparnasse

Kathleen Bell
at the station of Montparnasse

Welcome to the café of the future.
Here is the station of Montparnasse.
The park is closed. They are clearing the square
for old men who stand with medals and banners.

Here is the station of Montparnasse.
I am your entertainment for today.
The old men who stand with medals and banners
will not disturb you. Watch, for your pleasure –

I am your entertainment for today.
I have here a sheet, white as a page.
I will not disturb you. Watch, for your pleasure.
This is your history, could you rewrite it.

I have here a sheet, white as a page.
First you must take your time and look your fill.
This is your history, could you rewrite it.
