Dog Rose in June

Pink petals flare in the hedge:
Rosa canina , rose of the dog days.
Gently I splay the petals, bend and sniff.
The whole flower gives off sweetness,
Pungency deeper in.
Such heat this evening, come away from the path.


To One who Accused him of Writing Hate-mail

Not hate-mail: love-letters -
Read them again and see.
Love wounded is no angel: a wild beast,
Bellowing in distress.


Meditation

In your quiet room, the flux of candlelight:
You listen for things passing.
You shed the past like skin - I could believe
...
